0% VAT on Renewables Ends This Spring — Why You Need to Act Now

The 0% VAT rate on solar panels, heat pumps and battery storage ends on 31 March 2027. That sounds like a long way off. For anyone planning to install renewables, it isn't, and here's why.
The deadline that matters isn't the one on the calendar
VAT is charged based on when your installation happens, not when you enquire. And between first contact and a finished installation sits everything else: a survey, a system design, DNO approval for your battery or solar system, equipment ordering, and a slot in the installation diary.
That process takes time and it will only get slower as the deadline approaches, every previous incentive deadline in this industry has produced a rush, with installation diaries filling up and lead times stretching. Customers who start the conversation in early 2027 will be competing for the same slots as everyone else who left it late, and some of them will miss the window.
If you want your installation completed comfortably inside the 0% rate, the time to start is now, this autumn, not next spring.
What you'd be saving
Since April 2022, professionally installed energy-saving measures have carried no VAT at all. That covers:
Solar panels
Air source heat pumps
Battery storage, including standalone batteries and batteries added to existing solar
The saving is built into your quote, no grant applications, no paperwork, no claiming anything back.
"Won't they just extend it?"
Maybe. The industry is lobbying for it, and governments have extended schemes before. But nothing has been announced, and building a five-figure decision on a hoped-for extension isn't a plan. The relief exists today. The only guaranteed way to benefit from it is to install while it's in place.
What to do now
If solar, a heat pump or a battery is on your list for the next couple of years, bring the decision forward. Get surveyed this autumn, get your system designed and approved over the winter, and get installed well clear of the March deadline, not scrambling against it.
We'll survey your property, design the right system, and give you a fixed quote with the 0% VAT already applied. Get in touch and we'll get the process started.
